evil D&D (mostly for Rose)

Rose, you had mentioned that another Drow god might work better for your character so I found some source material. There is one in particular Vhaeraun, he is a male lesser diety, god of thievery and furthering Drow aims on the surface world. He is about sexual equality and opposes Lolth's matriarchy. His followers are mostly males escaping Lolth worshippers. He also believes that Drows should work with other elven races for common advancement. Refuses to work with Dwarves and gnomes though humans and halflings are okay, and I suppose by default orcs would also be alright as well.

There is also Ghaunadaur, he is a lesser god, a giant slime thing, has a tendency to eat his followers, I don't really see any advantage for worshipping that one.

and of course there is Lolth, which you already know about.

I leave the choice to you, whatever you decide, I can retcon appropriately.

Either way I have every intention of including the other Drow factions.

Fourth of July Party

I am going to have a party on fourth of July next week, will start around 2:30- 3:00. It will be a cook out, hamburgers, hot dogs, I can probably convince my mom to make some meatballs. There should be a firework display, but I will have to look that up, because they do weird things with that display like not put it on fourth of July even though it is on a saturday.

Conversation with my Dad today:

Him: "So are you doing something with Alex today?"
Me: "Yeah probably"
Him: "Oh what are you guys doing?"
Me: "I don't know yet, why?"
Him: "No reason."

two minutes later

Him: So is Alex working today?
Me: Yes.
Him: Oh what time is he getting out of work?
Me: 4:00. Why?
Him: I was just curious.

two minutes later
Him: Do you think Alex would like to go to a family style chicken dinner? I was thinking we would take him out to celebrate.

I don't know why he couldn't tell me that the first time... Ow, my brain hurts from thinking about it.

Westboro Baptist Church Protest

I think the best way to combat the Baptist Church would not be with ridicule but with a presentation of the other side. I.E. the parts of their own religion that they are ignoring, the peace and love parts.
The point of the protest would not be to convince them, but to convince other people. The Westboro Baptist Church is not going to stop but a protest will show the people of RI that there is another side to this debate, and that there is support.
A lot would have to come from the christian perspective but anything from any other religion that has a peace and love message should be included too.
If a protest is in order suggest taking their strategy and twisting it against them.

If people are serious about this I will try to see what other connections I can make.
I will need to know what they are protesting exactly.

ASOIaF Conspiracy theories

Spoiler alert?
It's more of a conspiracy theory spoiler and not a plot spoiler so not sure this counts, warned anyway.

Since Nikki and I are keeping track of the Lyanna Rhaegar conspiracy.

Clash of Kings
p. 746: ygritte tells Jon the story of Brael the wildling wooing a lady Stark and leaving a blue rose in her place. Others called it rape. They called it love. Brael was said to be a rapist/murderer, ygritte said "depends on the point of view."

p. 809: Theon is having haunting dreams of all the dead of winterfell. One of which is a lady crowned with blue roses and covered in gore, that he knows to be Lyanna. Amidst a banquet of blood.

p. 875: Dany is looking for the other heads of the dragon. She knows she is the first. The clues are in visions. One of which is a blue rose and a banquet of blood.\

Also the one of a woman in bed with a babe at her breast and Rhaegar sat next to her playing a harp with silver strings.

Now Song of ICE and FIRE makes more sense.

Fantasy Novelest's exam:
The Exam

-Does nothing happen in the first fifty pages? Hell no a lot of important shit happens.
-Is your main character a young farmhand with mysterious parentage? Nope, she's an artisan
-Is your main character the heir to the throne but doesn't know it? No, she knows exactly who her parents are, and they are her real parents and everything.
-Is your story about a young character who comes of age, gains great power, and defeats the supreme badguy? I suppose there is a coming of age, but no great power, and no "Supreme bad guy"
-Is your story about a quest for a magical artifact that will save the world? There are no magical artifacts
-How about one that will destroy it? No
-Does your story revolve around an ancient prophecy about "The One" who will save the world and everybody and all the forces of good? There are no prophecies, well no real ones anyway. There is a seer, but he's faking
-Does your novel contain a character whose sole purpose is to show up at random plot points and dispense information? Nope
-Does your novel contain a character that is really a god in disguise? no gods
-Is the evil supreme badguy secretly the father of your main character? no
-Is the king of your world a kindly king duped by an evil magician? Nay.
-Does "a forgetful wizard" describe any of the characters in your novel? no kings
-How about "a powerful but slow and kind-hearted warrior"? no all the warriors are appropriately vicious and bloodthirsty as well as cunning. Stupid warriors die quick.
-How about "a wise, mystical sage who refuses to give away plot details for his own personal, mysterious reasons"? only if "personal mysterious reasons" includes the fact that he's only pretending to be able to tell the future to prevent execution.
-Do the female characters in your novel spend a lot of time worrying about how they look, especially when the male main character is around? Not particularly.
-Do any of your female characters exist solely to be captured and rescued? No.
-Do any of your female characters exist solely to embody feminist ideals? ugh, no all my female characters are there to be characters.
-Would "a clumsy cooking wench more comfortable with a frying pan than a sword" aptly describe any of your female characters? I'm gonna gloss over the whole "food getting made" stuff
-Would "a fearless warrioress more comfortable with a sword than a frying pan" aptly describe any of your female characters? not really, ability to use sword does not make you incompetent at using a frying pan, seriously it's not that hard, and i insist on smart warriors.
-Is any character in your novel best described as "a dour dwarf"? no
-How about "a half-elf torn between his human and elven heritage"? Nobody grows hay in the mountains
-Did you draw a map for your novel which includes places named things like "The Blasted Lands" or "The Forest -of Fear" or "The Desert of Desolation" or absolutely anything "of Doom"? There is no map
-Does your novel contain a prologue that is impossible to understand until you've read the entire book, if -even then? There is no prologue
-Is this the first book in a planned trilogy? maybe? i think i'll use the world again but the story will wrap up in one book.
-How about a quintet or a decalogue? phtt no
-Is your novel thicker than a New York City phone book? i don't think i could do that if i tried
-Did absolutely nothing happen in the previous book you wrote, yet you figure you're still many sequels away from finishing your "story"? No
-Do any of your main characters have apostrophes or dashes in their names? No.
-Do any of your main characters have names longer than three syllables? No
-Do you see nothing wrong with having two characters from the same small isolated village being named "Tim --Umber" and "Belthusalanthalus al'Grinsok"? yes
-Does your novel contain orcs, elves, dwarves, or halflings? No.
-How about "orken" or "dwerrows"? No.
-Do you have a race prefixed by "half-"? Nary a one.
-At any point in your novel, do the main characters take a shortcut through ancient dwarven mines? No dwarves, no dwarf mines.
-Do you write your battle scenes by playing them out in your favorite RPG? not unless i want to write a system
-Have you done up game statistics for all of your main characters in your favorite RPG? That would be impossible
-Are you writing a work-for-hire for Wizards of the Coast? No.
-Do inns in your book exist solely so your main characters can have brawls? No.
-Do you think you know how feudalism worked but really don't? I know how feudalism works but this is not a medieval fantasy
-Do your characters spend an inordinate amount of time journeying from place to place? No. It all takes place in pretty much one area
-Could one of your main characters tell the other characters something that would really help them in their quest but refuses to do so just so it won't break the plot? Nobody knows anything really helpful
-Do any of the magic users in your novel cast spells easily identifiable as "fireball" or "lightning bolt"? hell no
-Do you ever use the term "mana" in your novel? what is this magic the gathering
-Do you ever use the term "plate mail" in your novel? no, nobody is that stupid
-Heaven help you, do you ever use the term "hit points" in your novel? no
-Do you not realize how much gold actually weighs? i don't know, i've never had to weigh any, but the people in my novel work on the barter system.
-Do you think horses can gallop all day long without rest? No. and horses haven't been invented yet.
-Does anybody in your novel fight for two hours straight in full plate armor, then ride a horse for four hours, then delicately make love to a willing barmaid all in the same day? Christ no.
-Does your main character have a magic axe, hammer, spear, or other weapon that returns to him when he throws it? No, magic is much more delicate than that
-Does anybody in your novel ever stab anybody with a scimitar? No there are no scimitars
-Does anybody in your novel stab anybody straight through plate armor? Again, no plate armor.
-Do you think swords weigh ten pounds or more? nope but my main characters don't use swords, so i don't spend a lot of time describing them anyway.
-Does your hero fall in love with an unattainable woman, whom he later attains? no
-Does a large portion of the humor in your novel consist of puns? that would require me to understand puns, instead of being the last person to get it.
-Is your hero able to withstand multiple blows from the fantasy equivalent of a ten pound sledge but is still threatened by a small woman with a dagger? no a ten pound sledge would kill my heroes, in about four seconds
-Do you really think it frequently takes more than one arrow in the chest to kill a man? No,that will usually do it.
-Do you not realize it takes hours to make a good stew, making it a poor choice for an "on the road" meal? i do now, but not a whole lot of on the road
-Do you have nomadic barbarians living on the tundra and consuming barrels and barrels of mead? no, that would be stupid
-Do you think that "mead" is just a fancy name for "beer"? No. I know what mead is, and it's not in my novel. They don't have a lot of bees.
-Does your story involve a number of different races, each of which has exactly one country, one ruler, and one religion? bwa ha ha ha ha, my story is about insquabbling
-Is the best organized and most numerous group of people in your world the thieves' guild? Theres no thieves guild.
-Does your main villain punish insignificant mistakes with death? No. that would be stupid.
-Is your story about a crack team of warriors that take along a bard who is useless in a fight, though he plays a mean lute? No, my bard is the main character, and she plays the violin.
-Is "common" the official language of your world? No, theres no "official" language.
-Is the countryside in your novel littered with tombs and gravesites filled with ancient magical loot that nobody thought to steal centuries before? No.
-Is your book basically a rip-off of The Lord of the Rings? Nope!
-Read that question again and answer truthfully. NOPE!

My mom is explaining to my father that we do not have outlook express, that he cannot go to his friend's band's website and hit the "send e-mail" button and expect it to work. This is a repeated conversation that has happened on a near weekly basis for the past four years.

I am listening to it yet again, and he responds as if he has never heard it before. I've told him he can download it, but I really do not have the energy to walk him through it.

I listen and I wonder.

Am I going to be that stupid when I get old?
